Located in the foothills of Northeast Georgia, about an hour north of Atlanta, Vickery German Shorthaired Pointers is dedicated to the preservation of the versatile hunting dog. Our dogs are well loved family companions who we enjoy training to compete in field and performance events as well as the show ring. We utilize AKC hunt tests and the North American Versatile Hunting Dog’s (NAVHDA) testing system, as well as AKC Conformation events, to assess and prove our dogs’ natural instincts and adherence to the breed standard.
Versatility and breed type are cornerstones of our program. On occasion we offer puppies to loving forever homes who understand the needs of the breed. We strive to produce dogs with exceptional temperaments, outstanding health, impeccable structure and innate instinct. This focus allows our dogs to be successful in field events, the conformation ring, various sports and performance events and, most importantly, as lifelong family members.
Vickery is home to Shorthairs who compete in a variety of venues including Hunt Tests (NAVHDA and AKC), Conformation, Scentwork, Obedience/Rally, and Dock Diving. Involved with the breed since bringing home our first rescue GSP in 2011, we are passionate about teaching others about these wonderful working dogs.
All of our Shorthairs are registered with the AKC and have OFA Hips, OFA Elbows, OFA Thyroid, OFA Cardiac, and OFA Eye examinations performed before being bred. They are also genetically screened using Embark for Breeders or PawPrint Genetic’s Canine Health Check. These genetic panels test for a wide variety of diseases, including several breed specific tests recommended by the Canine Health Information Center: Cone Degeneration, Degenerative Myelopathy, and Von Willebrand Disease II.
“The dog breeders of today are merely temporary custodians of the breeds handed down to us by the last generation of breeders and which we, in turn, shall hand on to the next generation. We, collectively, are entrusted with the care, protection and preservation of this very valuable heritage during our lifetime.”

Who We Are
Hi! I’m Meghan Bodie, the human face behind Vickery Shorthairs. I first got involved with the breed when I rescued my first GSP in 2011. I quickly fell in love with these fabulous dogs, and soon became involved with evaluating Shorthairs through the NAVHDA testing system, AKC Hunt Tests, and in the conformation ring. We also have a fabulous time competing in various sports.
I have been privileged to love, keep and train dogs for over twenty years. Dogs I have worked with have been successful in various performance sports, hunting and field work, AKC CGC certification, and service dog work. A perpetual student, I have studied under numerous trainers with varied ideologies, and feel I have gained a great deal from each encounter.
I strongly believe that honest, open, and considerate dialogue between breeders is key to helping us improve and preserve our wonderful breed. I enjoy putting my dedication to our Shorthair’s health and longevity to use by serving as a member of the German Shorthaired Pointer Club of America’s Health and Welfare Committee. I also feel passionately that all reputable breeders should give back to dogs in need whenever possible, and volunteer with the Southeast German Shorthaired Pointer Rescue to help make that a reality.
When I am not actively competing my dogs at events, I love to capture the moments enjoyed by participating teams through photography. As a trainer, I also spend several days a week helping others prepare for their own adventures in the world of dogs.
